Choosing the right filter

How do I find the filter that fits my system?
Use the Filter Finder on our home page, search by size or model number, or check the specifications listed on each product page. If you are unsure, email us your current filter’s model number or dimensions and we will confirm the right replacement.

What does the MERV rating on an air filter mean?
MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) measures how effectively an air filter captures particles. Higher MERV means finer filtration. Most homes do well with MERV 8 to 13, which balances strong particle capture with healthy airflow. Very high MERV filters can restrict airflow in some systems, so match the rating to what your equipment supports.

What micron rating do I need for a water filter?
Micron rating describes the size of particles a water filter removes; a lower number means finer filtration. Sediment filters commonly range from 1 to 20 microns, while carbon and reverse-osmosis stages target finer contaminants and taste or odor. Product pages list the micron rating and what each stage is designed to reduce.

Are your filters genuine or compatible replacements?
We carry both genuine and high-quality compatible replacements, and each product page clearly states which it is along with the systems it fits.

Replacing your filter

How often should I replace my air filter?
As a general guide, replace 1-inch furnace panels every 1 to 3 months, and thicker media filters every 6 to 12 months. Homes with pets, allergies, or heavy dust may need more frequent changes.

How often should I replace my water filter?
It depends on the type and your water usage. Sediment and carbon cartridges are typically replaced every 3 to 6 months, while reverse-osmosis membranes can last 1 to 2 years. Check the recommended interval on your product page and replace sooner if you notice reduced flow or a change in taste.

Why does my water taste or smell different lately?
A change in taste, odor, or flow rate usually means the filter has reached the end of its life and should be replaced. Staying on a regular replacement schedule keeps performance consistent.
